1973: Roe v Wade and millions of babies aborted
We remember today the 43 rd anniversary of Roe v Wade, or the Supreme Court decision that made abortion legal in the US.
Over the years, the ruling has had two consequences:
- Babies are aborted at a pace of a million a year;
- Our political well has been poisoned. Abortion is now topic # 1 when a new person is considered for The Supreme Court. David Brooks wrote about this a few years ago during Sam Alito’s confirmation to the bench:
“Justice Harry Blackmun did more inadvertent damage to our democracy than any other 20th-century American. When he and his Supreme Court colleagues issued the Roe v. Wade decision, they set off a cycle of political viciousness and counter-viciousness that has poisoned public life ever since, and now threatens to destroy the Senate as we know it.
Yes, it’s vicious. Remember the screaming over The Planned Parenthood videos?
We pray that common sense prevails and the ruling can be overturned.
