We learned that Arnold Palmer passed away over the weekend.   He was one of the greatest sports figures ever:

Palmer began his professional career in 1954.
He quickly picked up his first PGA Tour win at the 1955 Canadian Open in his rookie season, and his first-round 64 remained the best opening round of his career.
He went on to win 62 titles on the PGA Tour, fifth-most all time, and 92 including international and senior victories.
He was PGA Player of the Year twice (1960 and ’62) and the tour’s leading money winner four times, with total tournament earnings of almost $7 million.

He made golf popular all over.  A really nice man as well!

RIP Mr Palmer!

The great Paul Harvey was born on this day in 1918.   He became  one of the greatest radio voices in US history.    Over 40 years,  his programs reached over 20 million people a week.     His daily news segment was carried on 1,200 radio stations.

I heard him every morning at 7:30 am in Dallas and loved it!

Did you know that Bob Hope was born in England?   I didn’t until today.   He was born on this day in 1903 and lived 100 years plus 2 months!

Hope’s family moved to the US when he was 4 and grew up in Cleveland, Ohio.   His family passed through Ellis Island in 1908.

He started in the radio in the 1920s and gradually made it to movies.   Later in life, he’d visit US troops every year at Christmas.

Very funny guy.
