Biden on The Twilight Zone

leave a comment »

President Biden’s speech was long and boring, and that’s the best I can say about it.  It got to the point that I was counting the number of times that Speaker Pelosi got up to applaud or how often VP Harris nodded her approval of whatever point he was making.   By the way, was that Senator Joe Manchin in a corner hiding so that the people of West Virginia did not know he was there?

So who came up with “mask theater” or the idea of speaking to vaccinated members of Congress wearing masks?  On one hand, he is telling us that his administration saved the day on COVID-19.  On the other hand, he won’t fill the House chambers to prove his point.

The speech bombed in style, or as the New York Post said:

President Biden’s speech Wednesday night failed on all counts: It didn’t sell his latest spending plan, it didn’t sell his larger agenda — and, worst of all, it didn’t sell him.

The good news is that the agenda did not click, in large part because the presentation was so bad and incoherent.  It was the tired worthless clichés about helping families and throwing the IRS at the rich guys who take advantage of loopholes.

The bad news is that he did not address two major concerns.

First, what about gasoline prices?  The AAA national average is $2.889.  It was not long ago that we were paying about $2.00 in Texas and now I just paid $2.69, or over $30, to fill my tank.

Second, what about the border?  I did not hear any solutions or update from Harris.

So the speech bombed.  It did not sell his agenda.  It’s hard to believe that any GOP senator or member of the House will support it.

The NFL draft goes woke?

leave a comment »

Maybe we shouldn’t be surprised.  After all, this is the same NFL that blessed professional athletes who disrespected the U.S. flag.

The latest from the “wokes” is their reaction to the NFL draft or the potential top choices about to be selected by teams.

Are the experts concerned about the character or talent of top college athletes?   We used to do that but no more in the days of woke.  The big deal this year is that the top quarterbacks are all white.

Check this out on ESPN:

When discussing White and Black quarterbacks on Tuesday, ESPN’s Max Kellerman took issue with the notion that the stock of a Black quarterback falls before the draft, specifically citing the rumors that Fields may not be a top one or two pick.

“I know it’s on my radar,” the “First Take” co-host said. “Sometimes quarterbacks rise, sometimes they fall, but what I’ve noticed, in recent years after decades of artificial barriers being put in place for Black quarterbacks is that vis-a-vis White quarterbacks, Black quarterbacks in the draft tend to fall pre-draft.

Let me remind Mr. Kellerman that the stock of many college athletes falls before the draft.  It’s called competition or talent.  What does any of this have to do with drafting the best college athlete for your NFL team?

Don’t the Dallas Cowboys have a black quarterback who just signed a huge six-year contract?

Aren’t there lots of black college quarterbacks coming up or others already playing in the NFL?  I checked and 10 black quarterbacks started the last season?   I remember when Doug Williams made history as the first black quarterback to win the 1989 Super Bowl.  It sounds to me like some blacks are making it to the NFL rather than the opposite.

Once again, we see people in the sports media obsessed with skin color.  It’s all about the color of your skin with these people.   And then they call us “racist” when we question their obsession with race.

Girl don’t come

leave a comment »

Watching VP Harris avoid the U.S.-Mexico border reminds me of that song by Sandie Shaw from the golden age of Top 40 radio:

“You wanna see her

You wanna see her, oh yeah

So you wait, you wait and wait Girl don’t come…”

Yes, Madam Vice President is everywhere but down here.

Maybe this is one of the reasons why she is not playing well with the American public.  This is from Paul Bedard:

America is not quite there yet on Vice President Kamala Harris, with a sizable number viewing her unfavorably and the nation overall split on her becoming the first female president.

In the latest Rasmussen Reports survey, 50% have an unfavorable view of her. And most, 43% expressed a “very unfavorable” opinion, a sour note to her debut on the world stage as she addresses the United Nations on Monday concerning the global coronavirus crisis.

Rasmussen noted that a majority of likely voters do not believe that she is qualified to take over for President Joe Biden. But the nation is split on the question. Some 50% said that she is not qualified, and 46% did.

To be fair, many Americans did not think that VP Quayle was ready to replace President Bush and VP Gore did not exactly come to town with a lot of foreign affairs experience.

Furthermore, the public may simply be confirming the political divide.  Did anyone hear that we are divided electorate?

VP Harris does have image problems and she showed it during the primaries.  She is not likeable and seems afraid to tackle an issue that is hurting President Biden.  I hope that VP Harris understands that it is a Biden-Harris issue and not one that she can dump on her boss or bureaucrats.

According to the poll, voters are expecting VP Harris to play a major role in the Biden administration.  Unfortunately, she is doing a lot of Zoom calls but has not had one, in person or virtually, with anyone down at the border.
