A word about Jack Kemp (1935-2009)

leave a comment »

We remember Jack Kemp who was born in Los Angeles on this day in 1935.   We got the news of his death in May 2009: Jack Kemp is dead of cancer.

Back in 1977,  I was at a Young Republicans meeting in Maryland.

We ate crab cakes and opined about put the Republican Party back together after Carter’s victory and a Democrat congressional majority.

Who gave us the lift and inspired us?

It was Jack Kemp, the congressman from Buffalo.

It was Kemp who picked us up and set the table for the Reagan landslide of 1980. He did it by putting ideas on the table rather than demonizing his opponents.

It’s hard to think of a conservative movement without Jack Kemp. He was one of my favorite Republicans.

I loved his ideas: low taxes, free trade and let the free market take care of prosperity. I loved his ideas to fix our decaying cities: enterprise zones, school choice and strong families.

We need Kemp’s ideas today more than ever!

July 13, 1994: The day that the Castro government murdered 37 Cubans

leave a comment »

Another year and another anniversary.

My friend Alberto de la Cruz, Managing Director of Babalu, reminded us of this massacre by posting the photos of the victims.

It was not an accident, as the Cuban official media said. It was a premeditated attack on Cubans choosing to leave the island.

We remind you that Raul Castro, and his late brother Fidel, are responsible for this massacre. In fact, I am talking about the same Raul who sat down and watched a baseball game with President Obama in 2016.
