June 12, 1987: President Reagan and a good day for freedom

leave a comment »

It was President Reagan at his best. The great communicator, the great advocate for freedom, the man who understood the evil empire would eventually crash.

On this day in 1987, President Reagan delivered one of the greatest Cold War speeches ever:

“Reagan’s challenge came during a visit to West Berlin.

With the Berlin Wall as a backdrop, Reagan declared, “There is one sign the Soviets can make that would be unmistakable, that would advance dramatically the cause of freedom and peace.”

He then called upon his Soviet counterpart:

“Secretary General Gorbachev, if you seek peace–if you seek prosperity for the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe–if you seek liberalization: come here, to this gate. Mr. Gorbachev, open this gate. Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall.”

Addressing the West Berlin crowd, Reagan observed, “Standing before the Brandenburg Gate, every man is a German, separated from his fellow men. Every man is a Berliner, forced to look upon a scar.”

Reagan then went on to ask Gorbachev to undertake serious arms reduction talks with the United States.”

The Berlin Wall came down two years later.

We remember Anne Frank 1929-45

We remember today that Anne Frank was born in 1929.    In 1942, she received a diary as a birthday present.

A bit later, her family went into hiding in German occupied Holland.   Later, her diary was found and published.

It is one of the greatest books of the 20th century:

Venezuela and polio

You can’t make this up:  “Polio re-emerges in Venezuela nearly 30 years after eradication!

What more evidence do you need that this is a failed state?

We wish President Bush a very happy # 94.   It will be his first birthday since losing Barbara a few weeks ago.   I believe that President Bush is up in Maine this summer.

As always, we invite you to check out President Bush’s Library at Texas A&M.  It’s an amazing place to visit and learn a lot about # 41’s presidency, his amazing life story and US history!

By the way, # 43 wrote a book about # 41:

Is anybody listening to Bill Clinton these days?

leave a comment »

The latest from former President Clinton is rather bizarre:  “Bill Clinton says rules on ‘what you can do to somebody against their will’ have changed.”

My guess is that most Democrats would love to see # 42 and Mrs. Clinton disappear from public view.

The question is this:  Who is going to tell the Clintons that their time is up?
