2003: What if President Bush had not invaded Iraq?

leave a comment »

On another anniversary of the start of the Iraq War, let me ask a simple question: What if Pres. Bush had not invaded Iraq?

Of course, a big problem is that we always know what did happen as a result of war but we never know what didn’t happen.
For example, what if the US had not gone to war in Europe in 1917?  Korea?  Vietnam?.

What would have happened if President Bush had not invaded Iraq? Let me offer some ideas:

1. Saddam Hussein would have succeeded in mocking the UN and the Security Council. How many more times can you warn someone that this is your last warning? Is 12 years enough warning?

2. Iraq would have continued shooting at US and UK planes enforcing UN resolutions. How many times do you allow someone to fire missiles at your aircraft without interpreting it as an act of war?

3. What about the cost of doing nothing?   Containment wasn’t cheap. We did not choose between peace and war with Saddam Hussein. We were in fact at war with Iraq but we did not call it that.

4. What about Israel? Saddam was not a friend of Israel. What would the Middle East look like with Iraq and Iran threatening Israel?

Yes, Bush’s critics need to answer one simple question: What if Bush had not invaded Iraq?

So far, I have not heard anyone explain to me how Iraq would have been better if we had left Saddam in power.

Saddam did not have chemical weapons?   We could not take that chance after 9-11.

Put me down as someone who believes that taking out Saddam was the right thing to do.    Unfortunately, President Obama withdrew the troops early and that erased a lot of the gains and created the vacuum that created ISIS.

Update: The 2018 Generic Congressional Vote

leave a comment »

We’ve been keeping an eye on the 2018 Generic Congressional Vote.   The RCP average is Democrats plus 7.7%.   The last two polls have it a 6% or not too much over the margin of error.

We don’t know how the actual vote will turn out in November.   However, the current single digit average is not what you usually see before a wave.   Stay tuned!

Makes a lot of sense to me!

Makes a lot of sense to me:

“More California cities may consider defying the state’s “sanctuary state” laws, after the city council of Los Alamitos passed an ordinance defying the state’s controversial new legislation preventing cooperation with federal immigration authorities.”

It’s insane to say that citizens have to respect every federal law except immigration laws.    Glad to see that cities are doing what California’s Democrats refused to do.

So much for Mayor Schaaf of Oakland and her community operations

A criminal is always a criminal.    This is a rather remarkable note from Oakland:

Three illegal immigrants, who avoided capture after Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf blew the whistle on a raid by federal immigration authorities last month, have since been re-arrested for new crimes including robbery and spousal abuse, ICE officials said.

Well, so much for Mayor Schaaf and her community operations.

J B Pritzker is probably the next governor of Illinois

leave a comment »

Illinois primary update:  J B Pritzker won the Democrat primary…..very likely the next governor because of a very weak GOP incumbent who gave in rather than fight the irresponsible legislature.  Pritzer ran an anti-Trump resistance campaign or just a lot of “red meat” to get the vote out.   He will find out within seconds of assuming office next year that President Trump will be the last thing to worry about……the state’s finances are a disaster a total disaster!
