  1. In addition to the ‘Miracle’ by which the US planes attacked in staggered sequence and caught the Japanese carriers defenseless against the dive bombers, there was the unbelievable string of failures/mishaps by Japanese reconnaissance which SHOULD have located the US ships before they, themselves, were spotted.

    Considering the damage inflicted by a few handfuls of planes from just the Hiryu, a coordinated strike by the entire Japanese carrier force would have been disastrous.
