I can watch Ingrid Bergman as Sister Benedict a million times!

Thank God for DVD’s and the TCM network.

A few days ago, I decided to watch a movie and ended up watching one of my all time favorite movies.

The Bells of St Mary’s” is about Ingrid Bergman playing “Sister Benedict” and Bing Crosby as “Father O’Malley”.

I love it for two reasons:

First, “Sister Benedict” reminds me of all of those wonderful nuns who’ve dedicated their lives to teaching children all over the world.

They taught us love, responsibility and regard for our Judeo-Christian traditions.

We are better men and women today because women like Sister Benedict came into our lives.

Second, the movie is so inspirational at a time when we can all use an alternative to meaningless “hope and change” speeches.

Check it out and you will see what I mean.

I promise that you will love “Sister Benedict”:

Happy # 65 Buddy Bell

leave a comment »

We say happy # 65 to Buddy Bell, one of our favorite Texas Rangers.

Bell broke with the Indians in 1972 and traded to the Rangers after the 1978 season.    He enjoyed some great seasons in Texas, 1979-85:  .293 batting average.

He came back to Texas in 1989 and retired here.

Overall, Buddy Bell hit .279 with 2,514 hits in 2,405 games.   He also won 6 Gold Gloves during his time in Texas.

Just a great player!   His father Gus Bell played major league baseball and hit .281 over 15 seasons.

1953: Audrey Hepburn and “Roman Holiday”

“Roman Holiday” opened on this day in 1953.

It was Audrey Hepburn’s first major role.  She played a European princess who dumps royalty and falls for an American journalist (played by Gregory Peck) while on tour in Rome.   The movie was very well received and earned her an Academy Award for Best Actress.  It was the beginning of a very successful movie career.

Clinton’s new strategy: I may be a crook, but he is a racist

with one comment

(My new American Thinker post)

What exactly made the Clinton campaign go “race card” on Trump?

It seems a bit early for such a card. After all, isn’t she supposed to be leading by 10 points and headed for a landslide?

Do you recall Reagan ’84, Nixon ’72, or even Clinton ’96 sounding so desperate or attacking their opponents like this? They usually said little or had their helpers engage in attacks.

So what’s going on? Let me give you a couple of theories:

1) The Clinton campaign must have internal polling that it is a lot closer than the national polls suggest, or at least some information that her lead is melting because of all the bad news. They may also (and that’s speculation on my part) have polling that shows that there is zero excitement in the African American communities for her campaign. In other words, she will get 90% but the turnout may be very low! I remember analyzing the 2016 Texas primary on Telemundo Dallas last spring and we spent much of the night talking about the lousy Hispanic turnout. Excitement and Hillary Clinton do not go together!

2) The Clinton campaign may fear some bad news coming. Julian Assange told the media that bad stuff is coming. He may be bluffing or engaging in self-promotion. However, the recent AP story suggests that Assange may put the bow on this scandal. My guess is that some emails may confirm that the State Department and the Clinton Foundation were just a bit too close for comfort. At some point, even the friendly media will call on her to answer some questions!

It’s hard to believe that the Clintons would have a private server, delete emails and hide everything because they are stupid, asCharles Krauthammer wrote.   There is something that this couple is hiding. Why so much secrecy about emails between a mother and a daughter about to get married?

So put me down as someone who believes that there are big news coming. We may be about to have the mother of all October surprises.

Again, why play the race card now? I think that the new strategy will be to work on energizing the Obama coalition by saying this: I may be crooked but he is a racist!

What else do you when you are crooked? I guess that you scare your base that a racist is worse than a woman who can’t tell the truth or puts our national security at risk.
